M. then I walked down to the new Street Station and took Train for Great Ban. and went & Called upon Mrs Rowly. found that She was not at home, returned to 26 and walked down as far as Mr & Mrs Smiths, then returned and went to bed Wednesday Feb 2nd/7[-] Spent the day in reading and in Answering letters, and at night met with Prest [-] H Robbinson and the Breathern & Sisters in A Track Meeting at 26 and gave what Instructions I thought best. Morgan S J Pendry they going to their Homes & we to our all feeling happy at the good time Enjoyed ----- new page (MSS4109_F1_WilliamHarrisonMaughan_p006.jpg) Sunday Feb 6th 1876 Birmingham this is fast day which I observed and at 12 PM I met with the Presthood in Council Meeting which was well attended I Spoke to the Saints for a short time aftering listening to the reports from the [-]rians Districk Prest I asked Elder Hanham to talk which he did. he dismised the meeting at 220 PM and then met with the Saints according to a notice which we had published in the Daily Mail, at the time appo -intted the House was very [-]ell filled with quite a respectable Congregation. the meeting was Called to Order by Prest Robinson and after singing and Prayer Prest Robinson Introduced Elder Hanham, to the Audiance. I was the first one of any of my Fathers Family they had ever Seen. P.M writing and reading- at that time I went and took train for Redditon then walked one and half mile to Walkwood Vila,, Headless Cra[-] and Called upon Bro Geo Perry then walked back to reddit[--] and took train for Stoke Works ----- new page (MSS4109_F1_WilliamHarrisonMaughan_p021.jpg) arrived at 6.30 and walked to Caiseway Meadows, and went to Bro Geo. Godfreys and staid all night. here at this place is where the great Salt Works are Situated there is one Chmney at this place connected with these works that is 310 feet high they obtain the water by pumps and throw the water up between Four and Five Hundred feet_ they keep Employed 500 mend d[-]ly, I stayed all night with Bro Godfrey and we spent the Evening talking about his Father & Mother and Brothers who used to live in Wellsville Utah retired to bed at 12 oclock Saturday March 4th/76 took train at 10 A.M for Redditch and called upon Bro Pery again and Stayed with him talking over the ----- new page (MSS4109_F1_WilliamHarrisonMaughan_p022.jpg) difficulty that existed between him and Bro Godfery. then took train for Birmingham and arrived all right and found all well. and recived Little from Mr H. Spent the rest of the day reading and writing_ at 7 P.M Bro Geo Perry called. he had come all the way from Redditch to see me._ I then walked dow to new Street with him and from there went to Bro N Benches and Spent the Evening with him and Family Sunday Apr 2nd 1876 This being the first Sunday in the Month, I fasted from Morming untill 5 P. Fanell was very kindly took us to Bro_ Parker to Dinner,, After Dinner we went and visited a very bauitifull Cemetary ----- new page (MSS4109_F1_WilliamHarrisonMaughan_p045.jpg) then we went and visited some old ruins and an old wall which was built in the Year 40. and it Still Stands quite firm it was built of Sand Stone and Cement. we then went and visited the Bow Bridge. this is the place where the Old Bridge used to Stand over which Henry Richard the Third on his way to the Battle of Bosworth field where he met his death, he was the Last of Plantagenets Kings. we then returned to Brother Robbinson and had tea we then took a very nice walk out in the Sburburbs of the City, and went to Bro Parkers to Supper, and from there we went to meeting Where I talked for a Short time to the Saints and a few Strangers. As Bishop Wm Maughan,, this seemed to have created quite a currosity in the minds of the people as the whole of them was out in mass to see the the great man Bp W Maughan at 1030 A.M we met in council Meeting with quite a few of the Brethen of the preisthood. L. Halliday officiated, we then went back and after breakfast we went to meeting here I organized a branch of the Church by appointing Elder — Hampt Pressident and we ordained Bro Wakeling to the office of Priest. Malvern is the nicest little place I have Seen in England the Hills put me in mind of my own Mountain home. the hills are very high for this Country. I then went to Mr William Westons my Step Mothers Brother he was much astonished and very plased to see me . I was the person he had Seen who had Seen his Sister Since She left England in the year 1841. After many enq -urries about Mother, due Con -versation drifted onto religion and bore my testimony to him of the Trueth of the gospel as it had been restored by an Holy Angel he gave me every attention and walked with me to the R. She was very plased to see me. and I stayed with them untill 7 P.M. and then went to the Council Meeting. and returned to 26 at 10,30 and went to bed Wednesday May 10th 18[-] Arrose very Early this Morning and went down to Mr Smith and had breakfast. The rest of the day I was getting the Starr ready.for Monthy and at 8 oclock went to Meeting and Preached to the people. had a very good meeting Friday May 12th 1876 (Birmingham) Spent the forepart of the day in reading and answering letter then in the afternoon went and met Baily then went to the Station and looked for Ardley where we arrived all right and walked to Sister Thompsons. Then went to the Lower aston ground and met Bro. Bro Lester and my self the returned to Birmingham where we arrived at Ten oclock all well Tuesday May 15th 1876 Spent today helping Sisters Rawly & Tate Pack up preparatory to going to Utah these people live at Swan- Village after our hard Days work we returned to Birmingham and went to bed Wednesday May 17th 1876 Received letters from Bro John Jardine from Wellsville giving me the Sad news that Elder Timothy Parkinson had lost one of his hands thru- -ugh the discharge of a gun. M walked to the NeewStreet Station and booked for Coventry where I arrived at 12,20 P.M. and walked to Sister Smith and had Dinner then walked arround the Lawn and went to the Inn St Michels and Saw Some 5 Children baptised after there order the Church of England. it was the first I had ever seen. and I do not wish to see any more as I considerd if there is such a thing Sacrelige there form of baptism is one. I then went and visited Bro F. H. Walsh and myself walked to the L.D.S. Sunday School. there we found Elder Edwin Brewster the Prest of Wolverhampton Branch with quite a few Children busily engaged reading in the catechism,, the School continued one hour and a half and was very interesting to me and I Spent the forenoon very agreeably, we the walked back to Mr Walshes and had Dinner Then went to meeting at 230. had a very good fellowship meeting at which I Spoke I then went to Bro Haynes and had my tea here I had new milk right from the Cow the first I had had since I left my own home in Utah. I walked to Breerley Hill Station and booked for B—ham where I arrived in Safety and found all well. Received Letter this morning from Brother Geo ,L Fanell Stating he would be in Birmingham by the one oclock Train. After dinner I walk[-] dow to the new Street Sta- tiom. returned to 26 and at 6 P.M Elder Halliday and myself went to the Hockley Station and booked for Wolverhampton where we Spent a very pleasanet Evening at Mr Walshes ----- new page (MSS4109_F1_WilliamHarrisonMaughan_p118.jpg) in company with Sister W and Daughters and many no more of there acquaintance including Prest Brewster and Wife. we Spent the Even- ing in Singing and dancing and at 2 A.M we retired to rest and rested well Saturday June 24th/7[-] Birmingham After breakfast we bid the good people good bye and Booked for Birmingham where we arrived all O. K and found all well at 26. Wednesday July 12th/76 At 12, M we left Pitsburg and passed through a Portion of West Virginia and arrived at Stubenvill.
